- Chuck Palahniuk, Invisible Monsters
What do you think? Are we only a smattering of personalities, ethics and traits derived from those around us? I'd like to think I'm not, but I see so much of my parents in me. I see little quirks I've picked up along the way from friends, school mates and coworkers. It's hard to say what about me is truly mine.
At least I can fall back on the fact that all those "efforts" from everybody make me original...
There is only one me and if I am the combined effort of everyone I've ever known, then I must be a fantastic, original and unique piece of work! Either that, or I'm just still working on figuring out who I am by trying out other people's shit along the way.

You really should watch the first four minutes of this Star Trek episode. The episode launches with the presentation of an artefact which represents an individual as a community of voices. Wonderful image.
